7/7/2011: If I had known that the Shooting Stars Hoop Troupe was giving their demonstration indoors, I would have brought lighting and a better back- and floor-drop. As it was, I found a black curtain wall, and photoshopped out the floor.

  • 7/6/2011: Fourth of July Parade, Montgomery Village, MD. It seems to be tradition that all the swim teams have floats at the parade. Hence, the presence of these mermaids.
  • 7/5/11: Decision paralysis on whether it was going to rain or not and the final mad rush to leave the house caused me to forget the camera. Here is a shot from last year. I had my camera ready to go, but I wasn't sure how things were going to be any different. I was going to shoot with a 50 mm instead of the 100 mm I used here.

I was doing some field work at Violette's Lock (Lock 23) of the C&O Canal. Had quite a bit of "spare" time while the instrumentation did its thing. There were these bulldozers just off the parking lot. I have no idea what they were there for, but they served as a subject for me.

Spent the day at Lock 23 (Violette's Lock) of the C&O Canal, performing some measurements to see if we could detect life based upon circular polarization induced by the chiral nature of the molecular structure of chlorophyll. Had a lot of time to take pictures, but I had to stay close to the experiment.
